AeroTech’s
expertise lies in our ability to use our core capabilities to
bridge the gap between our clients’ current situation and
the immediate and future needs of their systems and interfaces.
Our core capabilities cover a wide spectrum of engineering services
and show how AeroTech can provide our clients with unique, tailorable
support and innovative solutions at every stage of their business
or project.

AeroTech has the ability
to transform our clients’ needs and desires into fully developed
conceptual systems. AeroTech begins by assisting the client in
defining their requirements, priorities, and desired benefits.
The AeroTech team then uses its collective engineering experience
to develop both the theoretical and technical characteristics
of a potential solution system. The client will be provided a
report that documents the conceptual system and presents the risks,
assumptions, and potential benefits associated with the concept.
If the client chooses to use AeroTech to develop the concept into
an actual system, AeroTech will continue to refine and improve
the concept as the development of the system’s components
progresses and more solid information is uncovered.
AeroTech has been closely involved in developing several complex
aviation systems including an Enhanced
Turbulence Mode Radar and a Turbulence
Auto-PIREP System (TAPS) for the Turbulence Prediction and
Warning System (TPAWS) element of the NASA Aviation Safety program.

Processing
and Algorithm Development
AeroTech has extensive
experience in developing processing techniques and algorithms
that take data from both unique systems and common aircraft
systems and that transform the collected data into unique inputs
for displays, control systems, and user interfaces. Our goal
is to provide the clients with the information they need by
uniquely processing currently available information rather than
having to implement a potentially costly, new data collection
system. AeroTech specializes in air turbulence measurements,
wind estimation algorithms, and other meteorological algorithms,
but has developed various control and measurement algorithms
as well.
Some of the algorithms
and processing techniques developed or refined by AeroTech include
the turbulence prediction algorithm in TAPS, a turbulence interpretation
algorithm, a meteorological data and EDR collection algorithm
for the Wake Vortex Advisory System, and the NCAR EDR algorithm.

System
Modeling and Simulation
AeroTech specializes
in simulations of aircraft and their responses to the
atmosphere (turbulence, wind shear, etc.). AeroTech
has the capability to simulate single-input/single-output
(SISO) models, 2- and 3-degree of freedom (DOF) linear
models, and a full 6-degree of freedom environment.
These simulation tools are used in various aspects of
system development and testing.
Since much of
AeroTech's past work has been in assessing the effects
of the atmosphere on aircraft, several weather models
of varying degrees of complexity have been developed and
incorporated into our simulations:
- 1- and 3-dimensional von Karman "continuous"
turbulence
- wind shear micro bursts
- high altitude clear air turbulence waves
- 1-, 2-, and 3-components wind and turbulence profiles
from flight measurement
The TAPS operational simulation (TAPOS)
is an example of our system simulation and modeling capabilities.

Testing
and Performance Assessment
AeroTech has expertise, both in actual flight testing and wind tunnel
tests, evaluating various systems and sensors. Our team develops
and executes test plans based on the specific system to be tested
and the focus of each individual evaluation. Our engineers will
perform the data collection, analyze the data, and then assess the
performance of the system based on documented performance levels.
AeroTech has performed flight tests on a variety of aircraft types.
AeroTech also has a large library of
actual flight data for use in developing, testing, and evaluating
systems prior to flight or wind tunnel tests. This flight data
provides AeroTech the unique opportunity to evaluate systems using
desktop computers and simulators prior to spending funds on more
costly testing. The ability to perform multiple desktop assessments
enables the discovery and correction of system problems at the
lowest possible level. AeroTech engineers document all test plans,
data collected, and evaluation results in detailed final reports.
Examples of our testing include thermal anemometers, TAPS, and
various algorithms.
